Man Day

Tomorrow is MAN DAY…also known as the bachelor party celebration for my brother. We’re going to kick off the day with a 16-person scramble at Royal Meadows Golf Course in Independence, followed by a 20-person poker tournament and grilling some burgers and hot dogs (and one piece of chicken for me). After that, the plan is to head out to the Power & Light district or some other place. Watch out for us…we’re pretty awesome.

There will be more testosterone at this party than you can deal with.

It’s gonna be awesome.

Happy Birthday Brother

Brothers

Today is Jake’s birthday. His lady-love Kelly’s birthday is on Wednesday. We had a little party for them today at my parents house after church today. (Alli totally killed her sermon today, BTW. She’s a serious Rostrum Rockstar.)

Steaks

Jake, in his infinite kindness, decided he wanted STEAK for his birthday. Having to look at these gorgeous steaks all day was not fun. Everything else was a lot of fun. We had a blast hanging out with the family all day, playing with the kids, playing Apples to Apples, overeating. All of it was a lot of fun.

Being with the family was fun. Watching Jake and Kelly be great parents was fun. Even the parts where the baby got scared of me and started bawling…those were even fun.

Hilarious Text

From my brother last night around 6.

I hate traffic almost more than anything in the world. 1. Terrorists. 2. Traffic. 3. Mustard. 4. Writers Strike.

I love my brother. I actually laughed out loud when I got this.

Follow Through

OK, so I realize I’m a bit behind on the blogging. But here’s something fun:

I beat my brother last night heads-up to win my first poker game in a long while. It was a good win, probably the best poker I’ve played in a long time and I was able to outlast 10 other guys in doing it. Not a bad night of poker.

I was chip lead for most of the evening, but once we combined our two tables, I lost a few hands and others picked up a couple big ones leaving me about 4th in chips. I had one huge takedown of Justin that nearly increased my chips by about 50% and then I lost a huge one to Jake when I called his all-in with A♥8♦ with my K♠K♣. He caught an Ace on the river, which gave him a monster stack. Once Darin went out, it was brother vs. brother for the first time in…well…ever…I think.

After going back and forth a couple times, I beat Jake on a couple huge hands and I managed to catch top pair on the final hand flop. Jake called with middle pair and my pair of sixes held up and I won (crazy, I know!). Thanks go out to Darin and Jackie for hosting last night. Jackie provided the rice krispie treats, which as always were unbelievably good. Winning always makes you feel good.

Until next week, that is.
