Big Love Season Finale

I don’t know how many readers out there are watchers of HBO’s Big Love, but Alli and I can’t stop watching the train wreck that is the Bill Henrickson polygamist family.

Warning: if you don’t want to know what happens in the season finale, don’t read any further.

Sunday night was the Season 2 finale and left a bad taste in our mouths. It seemed to be building up to a rather big climax and then just fell flat completely. Despite Bill Paxton’s absolutely wooden acting (seriously…that dude makes Hayden Christensen look like Leonardo di Caprio), the show has been completely entertaining this season. Barb (wife #1) has been questioning her ties to her polygamist family, Margene is getting more confident in her role as wife #3, Nikki is dealing with her creepy brother and prophet father, and Bill is just trying to hold it all together while scheming to insure the welfare of his growing family.

I expected it all to come to a head in the season finale, but all that really happened was a lot of resolution. While there was one glaring thing left up in the air (Roman’s return to the compound and subsequent arrest), it almost seemed like the writers were tying things as if they’ll be going a new direction for the already greenlit season three.

I can’t figure out why I’m so drawn to this show. It’s not particularly well-written or well-acted (except perhaps the sister-wives, who are all pretty good), but it’s quite entertaining in its insanity. I’m already looking forward to season three…

I wish a new episode was on tonight! I can’t figure out why I like it either - it is like being unable to move your eyes away from a train wreck!

My Supermodel Wife and I watch this show weekly. She loves it, I watch it since there’s never anything better on.

It drives me crazy how the characters keep doing thing to undermine themselves. Example, Bill continues to share sensitive information (about Weber game, Roman, whatever) with Nikki even though he knows she can’t be trusted.

Tangent: I recently saw American Psycho for the first time (great movie, Christian Bale does a great job). Anycrap, both Nikki and Albie both had minor roles in that movie.

Big Love is a Big Waste of time. Bill Paxton is BY FAR the worst actor on the planet.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Jake. And yet the show is still amazingly entertaining.

I’ve only seen a few episodes of the show, but I find it deliciously entertaining given my Mormon friends I went to law school with.

The opening montage is brilliant. He baptizes his new wife, they pass through the “veil” from the Earth to the Celestial Kingdom, and they’re seated around the table on top of their own planet as the other planets rotate around in the universe. It’s great!
